A partridge sits on a conifer branch. A bird arrow hits it and it falls. Quickly Robert picks it up and and hands it to Askook who has 3 more on his belt. Robert picks up his arrow and hearing a noise he points and they hurry in that direction. Through the trees they see a French sergeant on horseback followed by 3 soldiers on foot. They are startled when Robert and Askook appear behind them. Robert walks ahead.
Robert
This way Monsieur.
He leads them into a Maple forest. A primitive maple syrup gathering. Natives collect sap in birch bark pails and take it to a central pot boiling it down. They are struggling to carry a pail of sap to the fire. They hear a horse and all are on alert the men reach for their weapons until they see the French militia Sergeant riding in he wants to buy syrup he has a pair of jugs on his saddle. They look to Chogan and they relax once more
Sergeant
Chief Chogan Bon Jour,
Can I buy some syrup?
Chogan
Looks to Robert and he translates
Robert

Sergeant

Robert

Sergeant
He looks like the Chevalier boy that disappeared 3 years ago. Get him.
The soldiers go after Robert and bring him back
Sergeant
(walks towards boy grabs him and looks at his face)
Robert? Robert Chevelier?
Robert
(slowly)
Oui Mis.
Sergeant
You must come with me,
He turns to Chogan…
Sergeant
Chief Chogan I must take the boy with me. His parents think he is dead…I must take him home
Robert
translates

Go with him.
They finish their business and head out of the forest Robert follows the Sergeants horse, he looks back to Askook and nods ok. The other Algonquians all watch until Robert is out of sight.
